May 28 (Bloomberg) -- UBS AG has told its former private banking team, which handled wealthy U.S. clients, not to travel to the U.S., the Financial Times reported, without saying where it got the information.
The Swiss bank has made lawyers available to the more than 50 bankers who operated the private-banking business, the FT reported. Bradley Birkenfeld, one of the unit's former executives, has been indicted in the U.S., accused of helping a billionaire client evade taxes. Birkenfeld has pleaded not guilty and his lawyers have issued no public statements, the newspaper said.
Many of the bank's former team have left over concerns about the investigation, the FT said.
The bank's travel restrictions suggest it may fear U.S. authorities could widen their investigation, the FT said.
